Week 12, Reflection (Heal the World. MJ)

One of the best musicians to ever live, Michael Jackson, is known all of his legendary songs. His songs are known for his great musical features but also for having a great message lyrically. Out of many of his greats, I chose the song “Heal the World”, and rightfully so, this is a classic. This song, which was written, composed and produced by Michael Jackson, reflects the world that we live in and tries to send a message that we can all work together to make this world a better place. I felt like the lyrics really challenged the audience to reflect on himself/herself. Michael questions us if we really “care”, and if we all did care, we could make a change in this world. This made me reflect on my life. Am I really living with a love in my heart? Do I have joy of giving? Do I care for others? Do I know that there are people dying out there in this world? These series of questions struck my mind when I was meditating on this song and the lyrics. These were such vague and almost rhetorical questions but it definitely did hit me to realize that I couldn’t really answer those questions for sure. Michael uses intimidating words such as; sorrow, dying, deceiving, fear, and tears to really challenge the audience. But he also reminds us that if we care and live for the good of others, we can make this world a better place. Some of the positive words that he uses are heart, giving, strong, joyful, life, and love. I think that’s what really makes this song “reflective”. It challenges the audience to look back on your life but also assures us that there is always good in the midst of bad. I think this concept can be applied to practically anything in this life, in the corporate world, in school, in sports, in relationships, etc. Again, this song is one of MJ’s greats along with songs like “Man in the Mirror”, “We are the World”, “Ben” and “You are not alone”, that delivers a strong message. I can’t say enough about this guy. His works are a great inspiration to my life.

“Heal the World”:

There's A Place In
Your Heart
And I Know That It Is Love
And This Place Could
Be Much
Brighter Than Tomorrow
And If You Really Try
You'll Find There's No Need
To Cry
In This Place You'll Feel
There's No Hurt Or Sorrow

There Are Ways
To Get There
If You Care Enough
For The Living
Make A Little Space
Make A Better Place...

Heal The World
Make It A Better Place
For You And For Me
And The Entire Human Race
There Are People Dying
If You Care Enough
For The Living
Make A Better Place
For You And For Me

If You Want To Know Why
There's A Love That
Cannot Lie
Love Is Strong
It Only Cares For
Joyful Giving
If We Try
We Shall See
In This Bliss
We Cannot Feel
Fear Or Dread
We Stop Existing And
Start Living

Then It Feels That Always
Love's Enough For
Us Growing
So Make A Better World
Make A Better World...

Heal The World
Make It A Better Place
For You And For Me
And The Entire Human Race
There Are People Dying
If You Care Enough
For The Living
Make A Better Place
For You And For Me

And The Dream We Were
Conceived In
Will Reveal A Joyful Face
And The World We
Once Believed In
Will Shine Again In Grace
Then Why Do We Keep
Strangling Life
Wound This Earth
Crucify Its Soul
Though It's Plain To See
This World Is Heavenly
Be God's Glow

We Could Fly So High
Let Our Spirits Never Die
In My Heart
I Feel You Are All
My Brothers
Create A World With
No Fear
Together We'll Cry
Happy Tears
See The Nations Turn
Their Swords
Into Plowshares

We Could Really Get There
If You Cared Enough
For The Living
Make A Little Space
To Make A Better Place...

Heal The World
Make It A Better Place
For You And For Me
And The Entire Human Race
There Are People Dying
If You Care Enough
For The Living
Make A Better Place
For You And For Me

Heal The World
Make It A Better Place
For You And For Me
And The Entire Human Race
There Are People Dying
If You Care Enough
For The Living
Make A Better Place
For You And For Me

Heal The World
Make It A Better Place
For You And For Me
And The Entire Human Race
There Are People Dying
If You Care Enough
For The Living
Make A Better Place
For You And For Me

There Are People Dying
If You Care Enough
For The Living
Make A Better Place
For You And For Me

There Are People Dying
If You Care Enough
For The Living
Make A Better Place
For You And For Me

You And For Me
You And For Me
You And For Me
You And For Me
You And For Me
You And For Me
You And For Me
You And For Me
You And For Me
You And For Me
You And For Me

Heal the world we live in, save it for our children
Heal the world we live in, save it for our children
Heal the world we live in, save it for our children
Heal the world we live in, save it for our children
